The Big Fake Wedding LA: Behind The Scenes

So, what on earth is The Big Fake Wedding? Well, it's part bridal show, part real wedding! All the vendors get together to create a beautiful wedding based on a theme; This year, the theme was "Phases of the Moon". The couple was a real-life married couple celebrating their marriage with a vow renewal ceremony. The vendors produced the whole wedding, start-to-finish, just as they would a real wedding, with the ceremony open to future brides and grooms and their guests so that they can get inspired and see real wedding vendors in action. Afterward, there's a party with food, cake, dancing, and booths with all the vendors so everyone can talk to eachother.

The process was so awesome (I highly recommend attending if you're planning your own wedding, you get to see potential vendors really at work!). In today's post, I thought I'd share a few of those great behind-the-scenes moments and vendor booths, starting with my own!

I set up my booth with a bunch of my favorite prints, flowers, and colorful decorations. I was really happy with how it turned out. It's totally my style: colorful & fun!

Most people don't realize how much stress and work go into planning a vendor booth. But in all honesty, we're all just people. Which means we spend hours agonizing over every detail: Is this the right color? Should I put my business cards here? Is this too tall?

I think everyone did a pretty great job, and it's always great to see how each person expresses their own style.

Smile Lounge Photobooth did an awesome job with their table. I loved the pops of red!

Joanna August brought their own selection of gorgeous bridesmaids dresses so attendees could have a mini shopping experience.

Hasmik of Sugar Fairy Desserts set up a beautiful display of desserts. Before the show opened, she offered me a couple treats to taste and oh my they were delicious!

Nifty Balloons set up their awesome balloon display on the spot, including special little clear balloons filled with gold flakes. They really looked like starry galaxies!

The talented girls of Vavé Studios put together this incredible floral arch.

The bride and her bridesmaids had their hair and makeup done before the ceremony and got touch-ups in between photos.

Love Wins Out: Grace and Joann's Elopement

I was so excited when a fellow photographer, Jessica Schilling, posted a call for vendors to come together for a special wedding event in Los Angeles. In the previous weeks, the election results and political climate made people fearful for the future. The idea was to turn around this negative energy following the election and turn it into something positive for our community in the way we do best -- by throwing an amazing celebration of love. We wanted to support local LBGTQ couples and give them the opportunity to get married before the inauguration without losing out on the important wedding day experience.

On January 11th, myself and about 40 other wedding professionals in Los Angeles came together for an entire day of free back-to-back elopements for 5 LGBTQ couples at The York Manor in Highland Park. I am so honored to have been a part of such a special day for so many couples and especially the couple I had the pleasure of working with that day: Grace and Joann.

Grace and Joann had their makeup done in separate, adjoining rooms before the ceremony.

Grace and Joann's parents walked them down the aisle and witnessed their beautiful ceremony, performed by Jason Lloyd.

Yummm! Isn't this cake just beautiful?! Mwokaji Cakery created 5 beautiful cakes, each in the style requested by each couple.

Vendor Spotlight: LOHO Bride

I had an amazing opportunity to take a look at the gorgeous dresses at LOHO Bride during today's special open house event for members of LA Wedding Vendors and Creatives hosted by Jessica Carrillo.

So when I heard, "LOHO" I assumed it was another NOHO/WEHO acronym (especially since the shop is in the center of West Hollywood), but it actually stands for "League of Her Own". That's because LOHO caters to the awesomely-unique, fashion-forward bride. The owner hand selects the dresses and looks for those special little things you can't find elsewhere. Really, you should check them out:

Loho bride also carries a bunch of fun accessories, like crowns, headpieces, and veils.

Amy Jurist of Amy's Culinary Adventures provided delicious food. Bite-sized bruschetta, tartines with goat cheese, pear, and balsamic glaze, macaroons dusted with edible glitter, and miniature banana cream tarts. Yes, that's right, be super jealous.

For this event, Neville Wickstrom of Nev Productions DJ'ed to a live vocal performance.

So for cool girls in need of equally cool wedding dresses, you can check out LOHO Bride's styles by making an appointment at their shop in West Hollywood.

Vintage Glamour Bridal Show - Carr Winery, Santa Barbara

This past Sunday, I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph and attend my very first bridal show. It was so much fun to meet so many new people in the wedding industry and interact with couples one-on-one.

Here's my first-ever booth... I'm so happy with how everything came together!

The event took place inside Carr Winery. They have a beautiful open space with barrels lining the walls and a cozy bar in the corner.

Everyone else's booths looked really gorgeous. It was so interesting to see all the clever ideas people came up with. (Like Gatherings for Good using an upside-down wine glass as a candle holder and table number!) Top left: The Velvet Pour's custom bar menu, Top right: Brenda Cali's stunning tablesetting ideas from her Gatherings for Good booth, Bottom left: The hair and makeup table, Bottom right: Memory Making Events' booth with vintage furniture from Sweet Beginnings.

The fashion show models had their makeup done by Absolutely Fabulous Glamour Studio and hair styled by the team at Studio Brit, all with a vintage flair.

The fashion show featured music from DJ Scott Topper and dresses from Dolly Couture. After the fashion show, I got to have a mini photo session with the models. They were so much fun to work with and the photos came out great!

I had the best time at the show and can't wait to do it again!
